LG nabs 10 CES Innovation Awards

Consumer electronics vendor, LG Electronics Australia, has walked away from the 2013 International CES Innovation Awards with 10 trophies.

The CES Innovation Awards are selected annually by a panel of industry designers, engineers and journalists who judge product entries on a pre-set criteria that includes user value, aesthetics, innovative design, quality, and contributions to quality of life.

The vendor's home entertainment products, mobile phones, and home appliances were recognised with awards in six categories: video displays, portable media players and accessories, integrated home systems and multi-room audio/video, home theatre speakers, home appliances, and wireless handsets.

A highlight for the vendor was taking out the 'Best of Innovations' honour in the video display category for its 84-inch 4K (ultra definition) Smart TV.

The TV, which will retail for $15,999, has a native screen resolution of 3840x2160, displaying four times the level of detail of 1080p devices. Among its features is an up-conversion engine which enhances 1080p content in an attempt to match the capabilities of 4K.

"Technology innovation and design are the foundation of our company, and we are honoured that CEA has awarded LG the 'Best of Innovations' award for the fifth year in a row, recognising our ongoing commitment to bringing the best user experience to market each year," LG Australia general marketing manager, Lambro Skropidis, said.

LG was also recognised in the wireless handset category for its LG Optimus G smartphone, and in the home appliance category for a range of its appliances built with Smart ThinQ technology.
