Tim Cook: gaming on the TV is 'interesting'

Tim Cook spoke about Apple's newfound success in the gaming market during the D10 conference

During the D10 conference Apple CEO Tim Cook spoke about Apple's newfound success in the gaming market. Cook claims Apple has no plans to enter the games console business, but he doesn't rule out becoming an even bigger player in the games market in the future and thinks the idea of gaming on the television set is "interesting".

"We're in gaming now," he said, noting the popularity of the iPod touch as a gaming device. He also described how gaming has changed from consoles to portable devices. He told Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg: "Gaming has evolved a bit. You have more people playing games on portable devices than on the big screen TV now, so where we might go in the future, you know, we'll see. But this is an area where customers love games, we want to do things that customers want us to do."

Cook confirmed that Apple has no plans to take on the games console market. "I'm not interested in being in the console business, 'traditional' gaming. But if you view gaming more broadly than that, then I feel we are a pretty big player today and the things we do in the future will only make that bigger."

Regarding the idea of gaming on a television set, Cook replied: "I think it could be interesting."
