Sky to broadcast Premiership match in 3D this weekend

Arsenal vs Man Utd to be shown in nine UK pubs

Sky will be broadcasting this weekend's Premiership match between Arsenal and Manchester United in 3D in nine UK pubs.

Visitors to the pubs in London, Manchester, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Dublin will need special glasses to watch the broadcast.

The broadcaster said its 3D channel would be rolled out to pubs across the UK in April, while Sky 3D will be made available to all Sky+HD customers later in the year and will offer a range of content.

"People have already embraced 3D cinema and because Sky's 3D service uses the same kind of technology, we're confident there will be demand for sport, movies, concerts and drama in 3D," said Gerry O'Sullivan, Sky's director of strategic product development.

In March last year, Sky said it would publicly broadcast 3D shows in the UK by Christmas, following a number of trials including the 3D broadcast of a live concert by indie band Keane.

However, it was trumped by Channel 4, which offered a week of 3D broadcasts in November.
