Rock group Metallica could premier their new single as a playable Rock Band download, according to MTV Games. "There are a couple of things we've committed to, one of them with Metallica for example," said MTV's Paul DeGooyer to the Rocky Mountain News. "They've reserved the right to give us their first single from their new album for the game."
DeGooyer added that the future of Rock and Roll is bright when considering Rock Band's prospects. "Playing (Rock Band) is really a new way to experience music at a time when music is at a substantial risk of becoming a lifestyle accessory," he said. "I think it has tremendous promise for the music industry."
Ironically, Metallica was the first musical act to publicly criticise new distribution models of music. In 2000, the band launched an anti-downloadable music campaign seeking legal action against fans who shared music over the internet without first paying.
