Sunbelt System Software today announced the top ten most prevalent spyware threats for the months of September. The enterprise security solutions company said that the results are based on 171,710 scans from Counterspy, its flagship antivirus package, and top of the list is search hijacker, ISTbar.
"Recognising these varied threats is the first step for a user to take in combating them," said spokesman Ian Masters. "We aim to give both consumers and businesses the knowledge and tools they need to ensure online security. The prevalence of ISTbar, a toolbar used for searching pornographic websites that may display pornographic pop-ups and hijack user homepages and internet searches is worrying."
In at number two is Claria.DashBar, then AvenueMedia.DyFuCA, AbetterInternet, IST.SlouchBar, iSearchDesktopSearch, AbetterInternet. Aurora, WebSearchToobar, IST.SideFind, and finally 180search Assistant. For further information on spyware go to Spywareguide.com.
