Runaware AB, a Stockholm-based startup, has launched a vendor-independent Web site that allows users to test drive software applications over the Internet.

Aimed at both professional and home users, the site currently offers English-language applications from five vendors, ranging from Corel Draw graphics software and TeamSoft.'s TeamAgenda scheduling application to the Applixware 5.0 office suite for Linux from new Applix subsidiary VistaSource.

And just when you thought you fully understood the implications of ASPs (application service provider), Runaware AB has come up with yet another acronym to explain what it does for a living.

The company is touting itself as an ESP (evaluation service provider), allowing users to test full versions of software in an online environment that simulates running the applications locally.
