Memory maker SanDisk boasts that its Ultra II CompactFlash (CF) and Secure Digital (SD) cards are "the fastest performing flash memory cards in the world". Each offers minimum write and read speeds of 9MBps (megabytes per second) and 10MBps.

They are aimed at serious enthusiasts and professional digital camera users who need to write lots of shots to their memory cards at top speed. Although SanDisk admits that the actual speeds achieved will vary depending on which digital camera model you are using. The fast data transfer speed offered should also cut down on the time it takes to transfer shots to a computer.

The SanDisk Ultra CF card will be available in the next month in three capacities — 256MB, priced £77*, 512MB, priced £155* and 1GB, priced £317* — while the Ultra II SD cards will be available in October and November in 256MB and 512MB formats, priced £96* and £214* respectively.
