Lexmark has launched a scheme for small businesses aimed at making its inkjet printers better value to run and thus more attractive for business customers.

The scheme covers four models — Z65n, X125, X85 and X5190 — which will each be given a 'Pro' suffix. The Professional edition models carry a higher initial price tag (see Printer prices below), but come with a three-year onsite warranty with next-day response (instead of the one-year warranty on the consumer models). They will also use high-yield ink cartridges that cost more than the standard cartridges (see Ink cartridge prices below).

"There is a different customer requirement for standard- and high-yield cartridges and this is reflected in the ink consumption likely to occur," said a Lexmark spokesperson. "Not only will business users have more demanding print requirements, they are also less likely to have time to go out and shop for a new cartridge [than] a consumer, and thus want a cartridge that allows them to print as long as possible without it needing to be changed."

The Pro printers and cartridges will be sold through Lexmark’s business reseller channel rather than through retail.
