HP has added a digital camera to its entry-level Pocket PC handheld device.

The revamped Jornada 525, unveiled at the CeBit technology trade fair in Germany, will compete directly with devices made by handheld specialist Palm.

Featuring a 256-colour screen, the lightweight Jornada is one of a number of such devices to feature a clip-on point and zoom digital camera. Pictures can be previewed on the colour screen and later emailed to family and friends via the installed Internet Explorer facility.

Although HP is touting the feature as a webcam, lack of connectivity means that, in reality, it can simply capture digital still images to its CompactFlash memory card for subsequent distribution.
