London's Design Museum will launch its Digital Aquarium this weekend, featuring 150 mobile handsets.

The 'aquarium' will be populated by hundreds of 'shimmering' handsets suspended in the tank, to give the impression of moving fish.

Each phone will have its number printed on the outside of the tank so that visitors can call the phone, which will ring, triggering off a pattern of buzzing and flashing within the tank.

"Allowing people to interact with designs makes exhibitions more fun," said a spokesman at the Design Museum.

The aquarium will be on display on the riverbank outside the museum from this Friday until 17 September.

Multimedia design firm Digit has developed the piece for the museum.
