Having trounced Intel in the desktop PCs arena, AMD is now turning up the heat on its archrival by cranking up its Mobile Duron processor family to 1GHz.

While 2001 saw AMD administering Intel the hiding of a lifetime in the PC Advisor PCs charts, with AMD now powering every system in all three price categories, no such achievements have so far been registered in the notebook market.

Compaq looks like being the first major PC manufacturer to offer systems based on the processor.

It is selling notebooks powered by the new processors at the top of its Presario 700 range, from its website.

AMD launched the mobile version of entry-level Duron processor back in January at speeds of 600MHz and 700MHz.
