Dell launches 1TB desktop PCs

Inspiron desktops start at £249

Dell today unveiled its new consumer desktop PC brand - Inspiron. Two of the first products in Dell's Inspiron line are the Dell Inspiron 530 and 531 desktop systems.

Starting at just £249 inc VAT, the Dell Inspiron desktops are designed as consumer home PCs. As a consequence, they have huge potential hard drive capacity, and are designed to look stylish in the living room. And customers can opt for two 500GB hard drives, for a whopping 1TB of total storage space - although we'd suggest that this will cost considerably more than £249 - details to follow.

One nice touch is that the Dell Inspiron towers each have no fewer than eight USB ports. Some have 10. We found four of these on the front, which is a small, but important, concession. The models we looked at also came with stylish peripherals and Dell's new SE198WFP 19in widescreeen flat-panel.

All the Dell Inspiron desktop PCs can be specified to include dual- or single-core processors, and customers can choose between AMD and Intel chipsets. Users can also choose from the following flavours of the Windows Vista operating system: Home Basic, Premium or Ultimate.

Those buying the new Dell Inspiron desktops will also be able to take advantage of Dell's soon-to-launch DataSafe system. Users will be able to back-up 30GB of their most precious data via Dell to an anonymous third party The data will be held in an encrypted vault, allowing the user to access it remotely and providing a safeguard against system failure.
