Dell to lay off 8,800 staff

Efforts to boost profit continue

While reporting a $759m profit for the third quarter, Dell announced it will lay off 10 percent of its 88,100 workers. Both its profit and revenue of $14.6bn in the quarter were well above Wall Street analysts' expectations.

Dell said the layoffs will come over the next 12 months from all regions, customer segments and job functions. The move is part of Dell's continuing effort to boost profits.
