Kyocera's new baby

Pocket-sized camera, full-sized punch

Kyocera has announced a new digital camera that challenges Canon's Digital Elph for title of the smallest, lightest and coolest digital stills camera available.

The Finecam S3, expected to go on sale in late April, is just slightly larger than the Ixy. Both models are credit-card sized but the Finecam is 30mm deep compared to the Ixy's 25mm. But at 160g it is 20 percent lighter and packs a three megapixel CCD (charge coupled device) pickup against the Ixy's 2 megapixel unit.

The camera can also record video clips up to 15 seconds in length at 320x240 pixel resolution and 15 frames per second - about a quarter the resolution of conventional television and half the image frame rate.
