Vodafone is listening

Get unified messaging on your mobile

Mobile telco Vodafone looks to be the first UK network to offer voice-enabled internet email accounts.

Vodafone's service will allow users access to their accounts through a single telephone number. This is known as unified messaging. Emails can be converted to voice messages and vice versa.

“Everybody will find the service useful,” gushed Janine Young, press officer for Vodafone, “especially busy people and those who don’t have access to WAP services.”

Users will be able to dial 07836 from any landline or mobile phone from any network. They can then delete, listen or reply to their emails using voice commands.

The service will cost the same as a normal phone call on their own network. For example, Vodafone users will be charged 5p per minute off-peak.
