Pentium 4 failing in US shops

Dismal performance in comparison to Pentium III’s debut

Intel's latest offspring – the Pentium 4 processor – is officially flopping in US retail outlets, according to December’s sales figures.

Over December – the processor’s first full month on the shelves - the 1.4GHz and 1.5GHz Pentium 4 featured in a mere one percent of all PC systems sold through US retail, according to market research firm PC Data.

Pentium III, by contrast, grabbed eight percent of total sales in its equivalent debut month when launched back in 1999.

Intel refused to comment on the sales figures.
