Government to create massive media regulator

Covers everything from TV to email

The government has announced the creation of a regulating body to oversee all forms of media, including electronic media.

The department for culture, media and sport (DCMS) has published its white paper, which charts the "third broadcasting revolution," and lays out its plans for the multimedia regulator, covering everything from television to email.

Furthermore, the new regulator, which will replace current regulators such as the Independent Television Commission and the Broadcasting Standards Council, will also have the power to investigate all broadcasting and telecommunications companies.

The white paper is available online at http://www.communicationswhitepaper.gov.uk/.
