'Mafiaboy' to plead guilty to hacking

Teenager with too much time on his hands to be sentenced next month

The 16-year-old high-school student from Montreal, who goes by the name of Mafiaboy, has agreed to plead guilty to a series of attacks in February on major Internet sites including Amazon.com, CNN.com, Dell.com, eBay.com, Yahoo.com and others.

At a court appearance on Monday in the juvenile section of the Montreal-based Court of Quebec, the youth agreed to plead guilty to most of the 66 charges that he faces.

A sentencing hearing is set for December 8. The teenager could face up to two years in prison and a fine of $1000 Canadian (approximately £450).

The teenager, who isn't named because of his age, was arrested in April and charged with two counts of "mischief to data" in connection with denial-of-service computer attacks against CNN's Web site and more than 1200 sites that CNN hosts.
