HP launches new Ipaqs

Windows Mobile 5.0 devices arrive at last

Hewlett Packard has introduced Ipaqs based on Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0, including one that features a biometric sensor. HP has also started selling a new portable printer with a Wi-Fi connection.

The hx2790, new to the hx2000 series, includes a fingerprint reader for user authentication. It also features Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 144MB of available memory. HP is selling an upgrade to Windows Mobile 5.0 for existing hx2000 users.

HP also introduced a new line of handhelds, starting with the Ipaq rx1950. The rx1950 includes 802.11b Wi-Fi and 33MB of available memory.

Users can connect some Ipaqs to HP’s new Deskjet 460 mobile printer. The portable device allows users to print from Wi-Fi hotspots and via Bluetooth from enabled laptops or handheld devices.

Windows Mobile 5.0 is the latest Windows software for handheld devices. With an upgrade to the software that will become available early next year, users will be able to push data such as email from corporate servers to the devices and also automatically synch the devices with corporate data.
