Microsoft antitrust appeal gets timetable

Appeals Court expects initial arguments next year

Microsoft now has a timetable for appealing against the antitrust ruling levied against it and the parties aren't likely to be back in the courtroom until next February.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit issued a schedule this week for briefs and arguments in Microsoft's appeal.

Microsoft must file its initial brief in 47 days, on 27 November, the court says. The court placed a limit of 150 pages on the document and says any supporting briefs must be filed the same day.

The appeal follows Federal District Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson's April ruling that because Microsoft abused its monopoly power in the software market, the company should be divided into two parts.

The ruling and penalty has been suspended until Microsoft completes its appeal.
