Hasta la vista Longhorn

PC Advisor readers prefer codename to the real thing

PC Advisor readers have been holding forth on the subject of Windows Vista – the newly announced name for Microsoft’s upcoming OS, due for release at the end of next year.

According to a poll on our website less than one in five of you (17.1 percent) think it’s a good name.

Many of you (36.7 percent) have become closely attached to Vista’s codename, preferring the name ‘Longhorn’ to the real thing. More than one in four (27.5 percent) think Microsoft should have kept to its tradition of brevity with a more worthy two digit/letter successor to 95, 98, NT and XP.

While most industry watchers believe it won’t take long for users to become accustomed to the new name as it joins the ranks of other widely accepted IT brandd such as Athlon and Pentium, few have found kind words to say about Vista’s tag line: "Clear, confident, connected: bringing clarity to your world."
