Smaller broadband ISPs outdo larger rivals

Size isn’t everything, says Which report

Biggest isn’t always best when it comes to the quality of service and value offered by broadband ISPs, according to a report published this week in Which magazine.

Worst offender status went to cable giant NTL, while little-known Harrow-based Metronet came top with 91 percent of users indicating they were 'very satisfied' with their broadband service.

Metronet was one of eight ISPs to receive a Which Best Buy award, along with Freedom2Surf, Zen Internet, Nildram, Waitrose, Eclipse, PlusNet and Force 9.

Big names such as Wanadoo, Tiscali, AOL, BT and NTL failed to muster even 40 percent on Which's extreme satisfaction measure.

Which canvassed around 10,000 broadband users covering 23 different ISPs.
