AMD launches embedded K6-2 and K6-III processors

System on a chip products coming to town

AMD has two new embedded processors based on the vendor's 0.18-micron technology.

The K6-2E+ and K6-IIIE+ processors target embedded applications, including set-top boxes, Internet access devices, server appliances, thin client PCs, POS (point-of-sale) terminals and telecommunications equipment, AMD said in a statement.

The standard-power K6-2E+ processor will be available at clock speeds of 400MHz, 450MHz and 500MHz with a low-power version available for frequencies as low as 350MHz.

The K6-IIIE+ will stretch up to a maximum clock speed of 550MHz with a lower power version accommodating processing capabilities as low as 400MHz.

AMD said both processors improve on its previous K6 products offering both higher available frequencies and lower operating core voltages. http://www.amd.com.
