Hewlett-Packard is entering the emerging Bluetooth fray, with yesterday’s announcement that the wireless technology is available in its line of notebook computers.
HP has followed the lead of several PC makers, saying that it will enable notebook users to take advantage of Bluetooth via a PC card that plugs into the HP OmniBook and HP Pavilion notebooks.
The company has teamed up with 3Com to make the cards, which it expects will be available in the UK 1st November priced at around £100.
While IBM, Toshiba, and Dell say they will offer Bluetooth-enabled cards by late September or in October, HP did not perceive the need to rush into the nascent market.
The PC card enables wireless communication between peripherals and telecommunication devices. HP says a setup program aids with installation and allows users to switch between multiple wired and wireless profiles.
