Windows Me hits the shelves

Absolutely the last of the Windows 9x family

Microsoft’s handy and positively final addition to its Windows 9x family of operating systems goes on sale today.

Users of Windows 98 and Windows 98 Second Edition can pick up Windows Me Promotional Step-Up for £39.99 until 15 January 2001, after which a £79 price tag will prevail.

To upgrade from Windows 95 costs £79, while those buying the full product will have to part with £149.

Aimed primarily at home users, Windows Me features improvements over the current Windows 98 operating system in areas including PC maintenance, digital media, home networking and Internet access.

For an in-depth look at Windows Me check out the latest print edition of PC Advisor (the October issue), which is on the shelves now.
