Review: Tiny PowerLite C825

Budget notebook

If the Tiny PowerLite looks strangely familiar, it’s not a case of déjà vu – it uses the same chassis as the Rock Pegasus Ti (see page 64) and the AJP 8050d that we reviewed in October’s PC Advisor.

But while the C825 isn’t quite as feature-rich as the former and doesn’t have as generous a warranty as the latter, this is the best of the three notebooks. Why? Simply because it represents excellent value for money.

The components are all very strong. There’s 1GB of DDR RAM and an 80GB hard drive to complement the 1.6GHz Pentium M 725 processor. No matter what business-related application or stressbuster game you care to run on the PowerLite, it would do so without a hint of a complaint.

But it’s not all good news. Our one criticism is the battery. When running the MobileMark 2002 tests, we only got a disappointing 131 minutes out of the Tiny – we’d have liked to have seen it get closer to the three-hour mark, at least. This may not matter a great deal, though, as the PowerLite is designed as a desktop-replacement model.

At this price you can’t really argue. Okay, the PowerLite’s battery life is poor and the warranty is only a year long, but look at what you’re getting for just £1,000. Performance is great, storage and backup options are second-to-none and the screen is superb. Overall, the Tiny is well worth its Gold award.
