Intel and Sony move on chips

Chip giant squares up to Transmeta

Intel is evaluating a new processor core optimised specifically for mobile computing that would put wireless technologies such as Bluetooth directly on a chip, according to a company official.

The chip would address low-power and thermal issues critical to mobile computing.

Sony, meanwhile, plans next month to release a PictureBook laptop PC housing Transmeta’s low-power Crusoe CPU. The system will be the first to use the chip.
