Latest Wi-Fi standard doubles coverage

Good news for those with big houses

A new wireless networking standard, 802.11n, promises to be at least twice as fast as 802.11g, with data transfers speeds of at least 100 megabits per second.

It's also expected to cover twice the area 802.11g wireless devices can - good news for those of us with big Victorian houses. It will be compatible with 802.11b and 11g devices and be able to maintain its speed in a mixed network.

The standard hasn't been ratified yet, but Belkin's Wireless Pre-N Router and Network Card, due out in October, promise 802.11n's benefits. Pricing has yet to be announced.
