UK leads Europe in Net access stakes

Women closing the gap

Britain is leading Europe in terms of internet access numbers according to a recent in depth study from research company NetValue.

Almost a third of the nation – some 7.3 million households – is now connected to the Internet
Some way behind in second place is Germany, where just a quarter of the population is connected.

Paris-based researchers NetValue reported that just one in four Germans have a connection at home – representing 8.5 million households.

France is in third place with 17% of home users onine (4 million online households).

The figures also showed that the gender gap is continuing to close. In contrast to the male geek preserve, which characterised early Net use, women now account for 40.5% of internet users in the UK.
