Lycos UK will go on

European chatrooms remain open

Lycos UK was today quick to clear up confusion over the closure of its online chat forums.

Following a report on Silicon.com UK consumers began fretting that Lycos UK's chat forums and meeting rooms would close on 1 February.

Lycos UK, owned by Lycos Europe, has confirmed that Lycos US, owned by Terra Lycos, will be closing its forums but stressed that this decision would not affect its UK customers.

"Terra Lycos and Lycos Europe are completely autonomous, therefore changes made to US Lycos site do not effect the UK," confirmed a company spokesperson.

The US decision flies in the face of criticisms made by the company last September when Microsoft closed its chat rooms on the grounds child protection, branding the move "irresponsible".
