Hands off our email, say Advisor visitors

RIP act gets another mauling

PC Advisor visitors have waded into the debate over Internet snooping.

The government’s RIP Act, which is likely to come into effect at the beginning of October, has been rushed through parliament as the authorities struggle to combat the growing threat of cybercrime.

In our latest poll nearly 70% respondents categorically disagreed that MI5’s right to snoop on our email is ‘the price we have to pay to stop cybercrime.’

PC Advisor visitors are in good company. The RIP bill received its most recent slating from The Institute of Directors(IoD) head of e-business policy, Professor Jim Norton.

"Loose definitions and drafting might allow future administrations scope to re-interpret and extend the use of these powers far beyond the government's stated goals," he warned.
