Catchy tunes on your mobile

PopCatcher lets you capture ad-free radio on your phone

PopCatcher is a technology designed to make bringing music to your mobile simpler. It allows you to capture FM radio broadcasts to your phone's memory while discarding all the unnecessary chat and ads.

Due to debut on a mobile phone at next February's 3GSM congress in Cannes, the method is being developed jointly by PopCatcher and Sensaura with Asian mobile phone manufacturer AWG.

PopCatcher automatically receives and stores music from any FM radio station to your phone's memory. To allow the audio files to be fit on a phone's limited memory, Sensaura has developed a compression algorithm on handsets powered by Intel's XScale processor.

The makers of PopCatcher, hope that it will allow them to cash in on the growing market for multimedia mobiles, stating that music is an important growth area: "Our studies show that people really like to get music automatically and for free into their mobiles," says PopCatcher boss, Jakob Berg.
