Microsoft Media Center TV capabilities come to Europe

Software giant Microsoft is set to launch the latest version of its Windows Media Center software today, bringing television capabilities and PVR (personal video recording) on the PC to European buyers.

The company is keeping the new software under wraps until later today, but the most interesting aspect for Europe is likely to be the video and television components, according to Jason Armitage, an analyst with IDC in Europe.

Media Center allows users to watch television on their PC monitor and using a tuner card inside the PC, operate it like a set top box, pausing and recording live TV. These capabilities have been available in the US, Canada and South Korea since October last year.
