Speedier dating

A faster way to find love

Broadband provider Telewest today introduced a new reason to upgrade to its high-speed internet service: romance.

The cable company is set to launch the first ever online broadband dating event next Monday. A group of females will be given four minutes to virtually date their potential matches via a broadband connection using a PC equipped with a webcam and headset.

SpeedDater, the event's organiser, has operated online speed dating schemes since 2002. However this is the first live demonstration it has carried out across a broadband connection, which it hopes will offer near real-time conversations.

"Broadband internet access is speeding up our lives in areas we hadn't thought of and thanks to Telewest speed-dating just got speedier," said Simon Prockter, director of SpeedDater.

The evening will take place on Monday 15 September from 7.30 at a central London venue, which will be revealed to registrants. Fifteen female participants aged between 23-33 are required to attend, while 15 males aged 27-37 are sought for logging into the evening from the comfort of their own homes.

The dates are only open to those people with access to the Telewest Blueyonder service.
