Castle and Scottish barony up for grabs on the net

If we were cynical we'd say that the decision to sell a Scottish castle, its grounds and the aristocratic titles that go with it, on the web was a blatant attempt to entice rich Americans aching to own their own piece of the old country.

But however you look at it, it's certainly an innovative means of shifting a prime piece of real estate along with what's promised to be a bona fide title.

The castle is called The Lee, and the cheesy movie on the website, set to a bagpipe rendition of Auld Lang's Syne (well what else would you expect?) certainly makes it looks pretty. In fact, with its rolling grounds, three lodge houses and interior right out of a period drama, it's just the way Hollywood types imagine Britain to be.

Along with the property you get to buy up the title of Baron or Baroness Peter of Lee, which the sellers say is a genuine title thanks to a rare exception to the British law that titles can only be inherited and not bought and sold. Apparently titles associated with a Scottish Feudal Barony can be conveyed with the sale of the Barony.

So if you fancy a shortcut to aristocracy and all the trappings associated with it, all you need is and appropriately fat bank account. While only a select few celebrities and wealthy individuals have been sent the coveted access codes to get into the sale website, even us commoners can watch the movie and dream.
