Lindows offers flat-panel PC

Linux maker offers low-cost computer to US punters

Lindows.com is branching out from its role as a software provider by supplying a low-cost Linux-based PC system. The KooBox comes with a 14.1in flat-panel monitor and is priced at just $449 (£278).

To keep the price down the PC is powered by AMD's budget Duron processor, running at 1.2GHz, this is combined with a 20GB hard drive, 256MB of SDRAM and a CD-ROM — a specification more suited to a notebook than a desktop PC, but then what would you expect at this price?

There is a more high-end model with a 60GB hard drive, 512MB of SDRAM, DVD-ROM and CD-RW drive, for $699 (£433).

Software is naturally all Linux-based and it comes with the Lindows 4.0 operating system and its suite of office software. Users can also download other apps from Lindows' Click-N-Run Warehouse.

Sadly the KooBox is only available to US customers, and there are no plans to launch it over here.
