BT cuts trigger figures

Telco celebrates reaching a million customers by reaching out to more exchanges

BT is celebrating hitting its target of one million wholesale broadband customers by lowering the trigger levels required to upgrade those exchanges which are not yet ADSL-enabled.

The telco is cutting the number of registrations required by 50, a reduction up to 25 percent in some cases, which means that 69 exchanges will automatically qualify for an upgrade.

BT set its target of one million customers backing February 02 when it had only 145,000 connections. Reaching this milestone means that now more than 71 percent of UK households are connected to broadband-enabled exchanges. The company estimates that this figure will rise to 80 percent by the end of 2003.
