Mac OS X 10.7 Lion 'to launch next week'

All signs point toward the release of Lion in the coming week, with 14 July looking the most likely day

Apple will launch Mac OS X 10.7 Lion next week, with 14 July looking the most likely release day, according to reports.

Apple Insider reports that Apple has begun briefing its retail partners about the launch, with advice being issued that RAM upgrades to display models should be completed by 10 July in preparation for Mac OS X Lion to be installed.

The company has also reportedly advised staff in Apple Stores that overnight shifts will be required in order to update signs, prepare displays and update systems before the launch. There is a suggestion that new MacBook Air models sporting Mac OS X Lion will launch next week too.

How to prepare your Mac for Lion

9to5Mac reports that the overnight shifts will take place on 13 July in preparation for a 14 July launch.

Mac OS X Lion will bring some 250 new features and will only be available for download via the Mac App Store, costing £20.99.

Among the new features in Lion will be improved support for multi-touch gestures, full-screen applications, and Mission Control, which will offer an overview of all of the open applications on your Mac, giving quick access to each.
