The Wi-Fi version of the iPad was made available in the US at the beginning of this month, with sales exceeding 300,000 on the first day.
Now the company has revealed the 3G version will hit US shelves on May 7 - that's three days before Brits are able to pre-order the iPad, after Apple said last week it was delaying the UK launch due to "higher than expected demand" in the US.
Initially, the iPad was expected to be launched in Britain at the end of April.
However, last week Apple said pre-orders will commence on May 10 with deliveries taking place at the end of May.
"We know that many international customers waiting to buy an iPad will be disappointed by this news, but we hope they will be pleased to learn the reason-the iPad is a runaway success in the US thus far," Apple said last week.
