Next version of Office to include speech recognition

The next version of Office will contain voice recognition, according to betas now in circulation.

Office 10, due to launch next year will be the first version since Office 2000.

In addition to voice recognition for controlling the software, the package will also contain speech to text and text to speech functions. These will be used to allow dictation and e-mail reading.

Office 10 should also represent an important milestone towards Office.NET, due to launch in 2002. These products are supposed to be "a platform for the Next Generation Internet" according to Steve Ballmer, Microsoft President.
