Napster booms in UK

Litigation turns out to be Napster’s best advertising

The court case and controversy surrounding music sharing site, Napster, has led to an explosion in UK users – the figures more than doubling every month.

A report from research firm NetValue has revealed that UK traffic on Napster climbed from 76,000 in March to 217,800 in May.

This figure then surged to 464,300 in June – coinciding with the intense coverage of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) lawsuit against Napster.

In the US, Napster’s user figures swelled to 8 million in July – a 40 percent climb on the previous month.

NetValue also estimated that 11 million hours worth of music was exchanged over Napster in June.
