Sony to release silver, pink and aqua PS2s

Sony plans to sell colour versions of its PlayStation2 games console in Japan next month.

Alongside sombre black, customers will be able to choose from silver, sakura (read pink) and aqua models. The silver version goes on sale on 13 February. But unfortunately romantically minded players won't be able to give a pink PlayStation to their partners on Valentine's Day as this, and the aqua model won't hit the shelves until 20 February.

This isn't the first time Sony has added colour to its consoles; it released different finishes last year to celebrate hitting the 20 million mark. Nintendo and Microsoft have also jazzed up special editions of their games consoles in the past.

Of course the paint job has the added benefit of making Sony more money as the colour consoles will sell for ¥25,000 (£127), whereas the bog-standard black PS2 costs ¥22,800 (£116).

Sadly for UK customers, there are no plans to release the consoles outside Japan.
