BT Wholesale today confirmed it has connected its 500,000th subscriber to its ADSL service, putting it on target for its plan to get one million broadband signups by summer 2003.

The company has faced criticism over the past year for its slow rollout of broadband services, not least from PC Advisor, but it now looks to be a step closer to its summer deadline.
Since July, its broadband registration scheme has seen just one exchange upgraded, but the company confirmed that 17 more exchanges would be ADSL-enabled 'within weeks'.
"This is an important milestone in our progress towards the challenging target of five million connections by 2006," said Alison Ritchie, chief broadband officer.
