AMD notches up notebook speed

2200+ processor available now in a laptop near you

Chip manufacturer AMD today released a new mobile processor that will be available in notebooks immediately.

The Mobile AMD Athlon XP processor with QuantiSpeed architecture and 3DNow! Professional technology, combined with DDR (double data-rate) memory technology, promises to deliver extra performance to run software applications such as video and image editing, DVD playback and complex number-crunching.

The Mobile AMD Athlon XP 2200+ can be found in Fujitsu Siemens' Amilo A-x600 series notebooks in Europe.

AMD's last few desktop processors have taken some time making their way into systems. Some processors announced in August are only now making their way into systems. The 2200+, however, is onsale from launch.

"AMD is focused on providing our notebook customers with exceptional mobile PC technology that gives them the freedom to stay connected and work from anywhere — at home, the office or while travelling around the world," said Ed Ellett, AMD vice-president of client business.

"Mobile AMD Athlon XP processors combine outstanding performance and true mobility features to deliver versatility and expand customer choices for people on the go," Ellett added.
