Epson brings support to the high street

Express Centres promise to fix most printer problems in 15 minutes

Epson has extended its support network to offer customers onsite printer repairs and assessments at 32 retail outlets across the country.

Called the Epson Express Centres, these service points claim to be able to fix most problems within 15 minutes. They are staffed by trained engineers who will repair or replace faulty printers that are still covered by a warranty free of charge. Those not under warranty will be fixed for a set fee.

Epson spokeswoman Janice Gibson says this is "purely an addition to what we already do", and all the Express Centres are based in shops that sell the company's printers. The aim is to make it "easier for customers".

Currently if you have a problem with your Epson printer that cannot be fixed over the phone, you have to wait for a courier to pick up the unit to take it away for repair. This service will still be offered to those who do not live near an Express Centre but now those who can get to a Centre can take their printer in themselves rather than waiting in for a collection, which is often inconvenient.

Customers can take in printers bought from any outlet, but the scheme only covers certain Epson models.

Gibson says the scheme has proved such a success that the company plans to roll it out to more shops in the future, but as yet no details are available as to how many there will be or where they will be located.

The models covered by the scheme are: Stylus Color 480; 480SXU; 580; 680; 880; Stylus C20UX; C20SX; C40UX; C40SX; C40+; C60; C70; C70+; C80; Stylus Color C42UX and Stylus C42+; Stylus Photo 790; 810; 870; 890; Stylus Photo 875DC and 895.
