Systemax splashes out on new HQ

PC maker invests £9m in building to house sales and support staff

PC maker, Systemax, has opened a £9m sales and support facility in Wellingborough, Northants.

The US company has three trading divisions including Misco and Simply Computers. Wellingborough has been home to Misco, a subsidiary operation run by Systemax, for some 15 years and the new building has brought all of Misco’s sales and support functions under one roof. The site, which was opened by reigning world snooker champion Peter Ebdon, will also be Systemax’s European headquarters.

"We were in three buildings close by here and it was very inefficient. The only way we could really pull everything together was to buy our own land and build our own building," explained Les Biggs, Systemax's vice-president of European operations.

Biggs added "We wanted to stay in the area because the employees are our biggest asset". The £9m spent on the site came from Systemax’s own resources and there is room left on the 6.5 acre site for further expansion. There is space for 800 employees in the state-of-the-art building, although only 330 people currently work there.
