Register for broadband

Tech website cashes in with ISP venture

News site The Register today launched its aptly named ISP, VentureCapitalist.net.

VCISP will provide broadband internet subscriptions for a middle-of-the-road £25.99 a month, but with a cheap installation and connection fee of just £65. Over a year this works out to around £380.

The site claims to be the most technically advanced ISP in the UK (although we're sure its competitors would dispute this) with additions such as 'marketplace', where users can add details of their businesses to an online directory. A metatag creator also lets companies 'mark' their sites, allowing them to achieve higher rankings on search engines.

Affinity Internet operates the site, which is also responsible for WH Smith's and the Royal Bank of Scotland's websites.

The project has received £2m in funding from private investors.
