New cameras for a new media

FujiFilm unveils first models using xD-Picture Card

FujiFilm hasn't wasted any time in announcing its first line-up of products compatible with the xD-Picture Card, the new memory card format backed by FujiFilm and Olympus.

The low-end FinePix A202 (A200 in the US) will be a 2Mp (megapixel) model featuring a 2.5x digital zoom and a basic movie mode with no sound capture. It will cost $180 (£116).

In the mid-range sits the 3Mp FinePix A303 (pictured), with a 3x optical zoom, priced $350 (£225), while at the high-end there's the FinePix S304 (3800 in the US). It offers the same resolution as the A303, but with a 6x optical zoom, a slightly larger LCD monitor and a movie-recording mode with audio for $450 (£290).

Naturally, all three cameras accept the xD-Picture Card and can be connected to a PC via USB (universal serial bus). FujiFilm will bundle a 16MB xD-Picture Card with each of the cameras and plans to put on sale 16MB, 32MB, 64MB and 128MB cards at the same time.

The cameras will be launched in Japan and the US in September — UK release dates have yet to be set.
