Signatures over the Internet are legally admissable

Big step forward for E-Britain

Britain is leading the world in terms of electronic signatures.

The UK has become one of the first countries in the world to make documents signed over the Internet legally admissible in a court of law.

Industry experts believe the most common form of electronic signature will comprise digital scans of handwritten signatures and coded signatures.

A spokesman for the DTI said: “This legal milestone brings the UK a step closer to its aim of becoming the best place in the world for e-commerce. Electronic signatures are essential if contracts are to be concluded over the Internet.”
