Corel upgrades graphics suite

Latest version of CorelDraw due for launch in September for both PC and Mac

Corel has launched the latest version of its graphics suite, CorelDraw 11. This is the first time the package has been launched simultaneously on both Mac and PC platforms and supports both Mac OS 10 and Windows XP out of the box.

The suite has three main elements : Draw, PhotoPaint and Rave. Draw now includes brushes that take advantage of drawing tablets, enhanced compatibility with other programs including Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator and support for PDF (portable document format), scalable vector graphics and XML (extensible markup language).

PhotoPaint has gained direct support for digital cameras under OS 10 and XP. This means users can import images and work on them straight from the camera. There is also a new cutout tool and enhanced web functionality that makes it simpler to create images for display online.

CorelDraw 11 also features the second release of Rave, which allows users to create Flash animations for the web. Corel has decreased the size of resulting Flash files and improved image optimisation. Support for symbols, behaviours and actions so you can link them onscreen to what a user does have also been added. Users will also be able to animate text on a path for the first time.

Several third-party applications ship with CorelDraw, of which ScanSoft OmniPage SE OCR (optical character recognition) software is new to the list. This allows you to scan text documents and import them into the main applications.

Existing CorelDraw Graphics Suite 10 users can preorder an upgrade to version 11 for the price of shipping from 1 July until 30 September. After September CorelDraw 11 will cost £340 ex VAT for the full product or £170 ex VAT as an upgrade from CorelDraw or CorelDesigner 9. For more information click here.
